STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Carl Landry muscled his way to 26 points and nine rebounds and Chris Lutz hit two key 3-pointers in the second half as Purdue beat Penn State 69-59 Saturday for its first road win in three years.
A scrum for a loose ball helped ignite a 7-0 rally in the second half that opened up a tight game. After Landry hit a bucket, the burly forward dove for a ball in the backcourt and got it to Marcus Green for an easy layup.
Purdue (15-8, 4-5 Big Ten) kept possession because of a Penn State foul, and the Boilermakers took advantage when David Teague hit a 3-pointer to give Purdue a 42-34 lead seven minutes into the second half.
Lutz later sank a couple of key treys as the Boilermakers won a road game for the first time since prevailing at Minnesota on Feb. 21, 2004.
Geary Claxton had 14 points and 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the year, while Ben Luber added 14 points for Penn State (10-11, 1-7), which lost its seventh straight.
It doesn't get easier for the Lions, who now face the daunting task of having to play conference powerhouses Wisconsin and Ohio State four times over the next three weeks.
Landry provided the muscle with 11-of-14 shooting from the field. The Lions couldn't handle the 6-foot-7 forward all afternoon, with Landry often getting easy looks at the bucket.
Penn State narrowed the lead to 58-52 with less than five minutes left after two free throws by Claxton. But Chris Kramer answered with two free throws and Landry finished off Penn State with a dunk.
After the final buzzer, the Boilermakers walked off with big grins, while the Lions got a smattering of boos as they headed for the tunnel.
Teague finished with 12 points and Lutz had 11 for Purdue, while Jamelle Cornley had 13 for Penn State.
