WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Carl Landry scored 24 points and David Teague added 20 as Purdue held off Penn State 64-60 on Saturday afternoon.
Danny Morrissey led Penn State with 21 points and made six of seven 3-pointers. Geary Claxton added eight points and 14 rebounds for the Nittany Lions (10-5, 1-1 Big Ten).
As Penn State entered the final minute trailing 58-55, Morrissey tried to tie the game, but missed a 3-pointer with 40 seconds left. He fouled Teague, and Teague made one of two free throws to give Purdue (12-4, 1-1) a 59-55 lead.
Free throws pushed Purdue's lead to 62-55 before Morrissey made another 3-pointer with eight seconds left, but Landry sealed the game with two free throws one second later.
Purdue had led 38-30 in the second half before Teague hit back-to-back 3-pointers to bump the lead to 44-30. The second one appearing to rimming out but then fell in and forced a Penn State timeout with 13:50 left.
Morrissey scored nine points, including a four-point play, in an 11-3 run that cut Purdue's lead to 47-41 with 11:49 to go.
Purdue led 52-45 when Morrissey made a 3-pointer, then Mike Walker made another 3-pointer to trim Purdue's lead to 52-51 with 4:20 left and set up the hectic final minutes.
