Teague Too Much For Illini

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -David Teague scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Purdue to a 64-47 win over Illinois on Saturday afternoon.

Teague, a senior guard, scored 18 points in the second half to help the Boilermakers overcome top scorer Carl Landry's foul trouble. Teague shot 10-for-17 from the field and made five 3-pointers.

Landry added 17 points for the Boilermakers.

Shaun Pruitt led Illinois with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Purdue (14-7, 3-4 Big Ten) held Illinois to 29 percent shooting to improve to 12-0 at home. The Boilermakers outrebounded the Illini 36-27.

Illinois (15-8, 3-5) was coming off a 51-43 win over No. 22 Indiana on Tuesday.

Purdue led 41-28 in the second half when Landry committed his fourth foul and left the game with 14:32 remaining. Teague made two quick 3-pointers to help Purdue regain the momentum, then made another three to give the Boilermakers a 50-34 advantage with 8:57 left.

Teague then banked in a 3-pointer as the shot clock went off to make it a 53-36 lead with 7:52 remaining.

Teague's most dramatic shot was a step-back 3-pointer as the shot clock expired to give Purdue a 60-44 lead with 1:31 left.
