WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -Carl Landry scored 19 points and Purdue held Delaware State without a field goal for more than 10 minutes in the first half of a 62-40 victory Saturday.

The Boilermakers (6-1) took control with a 21-5 run, took a 26-16 lead at halftime and built their biggest leads to as many as 26 points in the final period.

Delaware State (2-6), two-time defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season champion but winless in 10 games all-time against Big Ten opponents, came within nine points early in the second half, but two straight 3-pointers by Chris Lutz and one 3-pointer by Keaton Grant started another big run for the Boilermakers.

Landry, who had nine points in the first half, scored eight in a 10-0 Purdue run midway through the final period. A basket by Roy Bright, the Hornets' first points in 5 minutes, ended Purdue's streak, but Tarrance Crump scored and Lutz hit another 3-pointer as the Boilermakers began pulling away for good.

Lutz finished with 12 points, all on 3-pointers, and freshman Johnathan Uchendu added 8. Delaware State, which led only briefly in the game's opening minutes, was topped by Bright with 18 points.

A 3-point basket by Bright gave the Hornets a 5-2 lead at the start, but they managed only three free throws over the next 10 minutes and did not score from the field until a driving layup by Darrell Mosley with 6:38 to go before halftime.

Landry, who had seven points during the Boilermakers' first big run, hit three free throws, David Teague added a basket and Uchendu hit two more foul shots as Purdue took its biggest lead of the half at 23-10.

Delaware State managed only two more baskets the rest of the period on 3-pointers by Darrin Shine and season scoring leader Jahsha Bluntt, who was scoreless the first 17 minutes of the game. Bluntt and Shine also had the Hornets' first two baskets of the second half on 3-pointers but did not score again until the closing minutes.

Shine and Bluntt finished with 8 points each for the Hornets, who shot 27 percent for the game.
