CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Purdue University wrestling team improved to 4-0 on Saturday as they rolled through the first annual Atlantic Coast Conference/Big Ten Clash, hosted by the University of North Carolina (UNC). The Boilermakers crushed the host Tarheels, 33-3, topped the North Carolina State University (NCSU) Wolfpack, 24-12, and closed out the day with a narrow 19-16 victory over the University of Virginia.

In the day's opening match, the Boilermakers had control of the Tarheels from the get-go, winning nine of the 10 tilts, including pins by sophomore Jake Patacsil at 149 pounds and heavyweight freshman Chris Kasten. Patacsil's pinfall was his first of the season, sticking Keenan Duffie at 2:21. Other big wins for Purdue came at 141 and 174 pounds as Boilermaker freshman Nick Bertucci scored a late reversal and a nearfall for a 7-4 come-from-behind win over returning NCAA qualifier and Michigan State Open winner Vincent Ramirez at 141, while sophomore Nick Corpe pulled off an 8-5 victory over returning NCAA qualifier Alex Maciag, escaping and scoring a takedown in the final 25 seconds of the third period. Kasten put the exclamation point on the match, pinning Dan Goetter at the 4:39-mark for his second pinfall of the season.

Purdue went back-and-forth early with NCSU, but four straight victories from 165 to 197 solidified the win. Junior Brandon Tucker and freshman Cameron Doggett opened with wins to give the Boilers a 6-0 lead, but a Wolfpack pin at 141 knotted the count at 6-6. The two squads traded blows at 149 and 157 pounds, but freshman Justin Fraga opened up the Boilermaker run as he, Corpe and seniors Nick Skinner and Nathan Moore collected to put the match away. Skinner's win at 184 pounds came at the expense of 18th-ranked Jeremy Colbert as he used an early takedown and nearfall to post an 8-2 victory, while Moore earned his 21st career pin.

In the final match of the day, Purdue had to rally from a 12-6 deficit to finish the day undefeated. After losing four of the first six matches, Corpe scored his first major decision of the year to cut the lead to two, 12-10. However, the Cavaliers bounced right back, scoring a major decision of their own to regain their six-point advantage. Moore erased the gap with his 22nd career pin, moving into a four-way tie for seventh in school history. He flattened Virginia's Kyle Narkiewicz in 1:38. Kasten sealed the comeback, scoring a key reversal in the second period and holding on for the 4-2 decision.

The Boilermakers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3, as they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the University of Northern Iowa Open.
