WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Nine used a second-inning offensive explosion in the first game of Saturday's twinbill vs. Michigan State to post a 6-1 win, then went without any offense to mention in the nightcap as MSU won 4-0.

The Boilermakers are now 16-9 overall and 4-3 in Big Ten action.

In the opener, Purdue scored five times in the second inning on four hits and two Spartans miscues to take a 5-1 lead, an advantage the Boilermakers would not relinquish.

Mitch Hilligoss doubled down the left field line to plate Jordan Comadena an Dane Wolfe with Purdue's first two runs of the game. Spencer Ingaldson followed with a single through the left side of the infield, driving home Hilligoss. Three batters later, Ryne White doubled to center to score Ingaldson and move John Hunter, who singled, to third base. Neal Gorka hit a grounder to third, a ball that was misplayed by MSU cornerman Oliver Wolcott and allowed Hunter to score the fifth run of the inning.

The Boilermakers tacked on a run in the fourth on a White single up the middle that plated Eric Wolfe, making the score 6-1.

Dan Sattler cruised through five innings on the hill to pick up his third win of the season. Sattler (3-3) allowed one run on five hits, walking two and striking out one. Trae Dauby pitched the final two innings to lock up the win.

Purdue had two-hit performances in the game by Hilligoss, Ingaldson, Hunter, and White, but could have used a few of those hits in the day's nightcap.

MSU starter John Dwan stifled the Boilermaker offense in Game Two, throwing a one-hit complete game to post his first win of the season. The Spartan southpaw walked one while striking out six in a commanding performace.

Brent Coudron was hit with the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) in 6.1 innings. Coudron (2-3) struck out a season-best five batters in the defeat.

MSU scored single runs in the first and second innings, then iced the win with a two-spot in the seventh.

Purdue's lone hit of the game was picked up on a single up the middle by Kyle Reesing in the fifth inning.
