BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Purdue was unable to hold down the Indiana bats, while the Boilermaker offense appeared sluggish in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Hoosiers at Sembower Field.
Purdue is now 18-10 overall and 5-4 in the Big Ten.
The Boilermakers scored all of their runs on one swing of the bat as Neal Gorka connected for a sixth-inning grand slam, putting Purdue on top 4-2 at that point in the game.
Indiana responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth, and then plated four unearned runs in the seventh to post the conference win over the Old Gold and Black.
Starter Jay Buente pitched into the seventh inning, allowing four runs (three earned) while walking three and striking out five. Trae Dauby, who was hit with the loss, relieved Buente in the seventh and yielded four runs (one earned).
Neal Gorka was the bright spot for Purdue at the plate, going 3-4 with two singles and the grand slam. Gorka had been mired in a 6-40 slump over the past 11 games.
Purdue and Indiana return to Sembower Field for a Saturday twinbill, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
