ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Boilermaker Nine made it five in a row on Saturday afternoon at the Billikens Sports Center, shutting out Saint Louis University 4-0 behind the arm of Dan Sattler and the bat of Eric Wolfe.
Purdue is now 8-4, while SLU dropped to 7-9.
Sattler (1-2) had his best outing of the 2006 season, starting on the hill and pitching 7.0 shutout innings. The junior right-hander limited the Billikens to four hits while striking out five and walking none.
Trae Dauby pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Chris Toneguzzi closed the game with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Purdue pitchers did not allow a base runner passed second base during the game.
At the plate, Eric Wolfe was the primary weapon on Saturday, picking up three hits in five at-bats, including his third and fourth doubles of the year. Wolfe scored the first three runs of the game for Purdue.
SLU kicked the ball around the infield all afternoon, helping the Boilermaker offense get on the scoreboard.
Doubles by Wolfe in the third and fifth innings came around to score thanks to throwing errors by the left side of the Billiken infield.
In the third, SLU third baseman B.J. Rodrigue threw the ball away on a grounder by John Hunter, making the score 1-0. Two innings later, Billiken shortstop Matt Mach made an errant thrown off a groundball by Ryne White, allowing Wolfe to score an unearned run for the second time.
Purdue made it 3-0 in the seventh inning on an RBI single to center by White. Wolfe, who scored on White's base hit, led off the inning with a single and moved to third on Hunter's seventh double in 12 games.
An insurance run was added in the ninth inning, again scoring on an RBI base hit by White. Hunter was hit by a one-out pitch by SLU reliever Kurt Struckhoff and was replaced by pinch runner Jordan Comadena. Comadena swiped second base, his first career stolen base attempt, and scored on the White single.
White was 2-5 at the dish with two runs batted in. Hunter also had a two-hit afternoon, going 2-4 at the plate.
Purdue and Saint Louis conclude the weekend series, and the Boilermakers' eight-game Spring Break trip, on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM Eastern at the Billikens Sports Center.
