WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team finally took the court on its spring break trip to Hawaii on Thursday. Unfortunately, the 70th-ranked Boilermakers came up with the short end of the stick in a 5-2 loss to the host Rainbow Warriors in Honolulu. The loss dropped Purdue to 5-7 (1-2 Big Ten). Hawaii evened its record at 4-4 with the victory.
Hawaii jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking two of three doubles matches, winning at No. 1 and No. 3.
In singles, Purdue managed wins at No. 4, by junior Eric Hodgman, and No. 5, by junior Jarred Leibner. The Rainbow Warriors won the four remaining matches.
Purdue will return to West Lafayette before embarking on another road trip to Houston. The Boilermakers will play Rice, Texas Tech and South Florida in the Lone Star State on March 24, 25 and 26.
