COLUMBIA, Mo. - A severe storm stopped the game in the fourth inning on Saturday, and then a severe offensive attack by Missouri took over when play was continued on Sunday as the 18th-ranked Tigers knocked out the Boilermakers 22-2 at Simmons Field.

The game was stopped with the Tigers leading 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when lightning strikes were seen in the vicinity of Simmons Field. Shortly after the game was stopped, the sky opened up and the rain began to fall. Play resumed on Sunday afternoon at noon, and the Boilermakers never responded.

Missouri scored once in the first inning against Purdue starter Dan Sattler, then added a pair of runs in each the second and third frames. That ended the action on Saturday afternoon.

When play continued on Sunday, Missouri jumped on the Purdue bullpen, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 12-0. Mizzou's offense never relaxed, putting at least one run on the scoreboard in every inning.

Purdue scratched for a run in the fifth inning and another in the eight, with Mitch Hilligoss and Jeff Mojzik picking the two RBI.

The 20-run loss was the largest margin of defeat suffered by a Doug Schreiber coached team, and the 22 runs allowed were the most since Ball State scored 23 vs. the Boilermakers on April 7, 1999, when the Cardinals defeatd Purdue 23-7. The loss to Mizzou was the sixth time the Boilermakers yielded 20 runs in a game since the start of the 1999 season.
