WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team recorded a 6-1 victory against Toledo on Sunday to complete back-to-back wins and begin their spring season 2-0. The Boilermakers defeated Valparaiso 6-1 earlier on Sunday afternoon. The victory extended Toledo's losing streak to three matches.

Purdue came out with strong doubles play and won the point. Coming up with a victory for the Boilermakers was the duo of junior Eric Hodgman and freshman P.J. Rose, which defeated Mohammed Al-Nabhani and Tony Tran 8-5. Also winning in doubles at the No. 2 position was the freshman pair of Kelubia Mabatah and Kurt Zaske. The rookies defeated Travis Curran and Brian Rager 8-4.

The Boilermakers won all but one singles match and did so in dominant fashion. Getting the first wins for Purdue were Hodgman and senior Colin Foster. All three Boilermaker freshmen also came up with big singles victories. Mabatah and Rose won their matches in two sets, and Zaske took three sets to beat Curran.

Purdue will resume play next week when it plays host to Harvard and Butler at the Lafayette Sports Center on Feb. 4 and 5.
