SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Boilermakers didn't get the results they were hoping for on their first day of action on the Pacific coast, falling to Boise State and Cal Poly at Mott Gym on the Cal Poly campus.

Purdue fell to the Broncos of Boise State in the opening dual of the afternoon, 19-14, before being clipped by the host Mustangs, 29-10.

The Boilermakers opened the afternoon with a win at 141 by Jason Cook, a 9-1 major decision winner of Jordan Brock. Three consecutive losses at 149, 157 and 165 put Purdue behind 10-4.

At 174, Nick Corpe posted a 3-2 decision over Ben Gilliland, and Ben Wissel defeated K.C. Walsh 7-4 to even the team score at 10-10. However, Purdue could not keep momentum, losing close matches at 197 pounds and heavyweight.

Trailing 19-10 heading into the final match, Purdue got a shot of a bright spot as Chris Fleeger, in his first match after being cleared by the NCAA and Big Ten for a seixth year of eligibility, defeated 17th-ranked Scott Jorgensen by major decision, 15-3.

In the second dual, Purdue fell behind 9-0 after two duals before Jake Murphy pulled out a 5-2 decision over Ryan Williams to get the Old Gold and Black on the scoreboard.

Cal Poly posted wins at 165 and 174, moving ahead 16-3, setting up the anticipated match-up between Wissel, ranked fifth in the nation, and Ryan Halsey, the sixth-ranked 184-pounder. A takedown by Wissel in the final seconds of the second period was the deciding blow as the Boilermaker won 3-1.

Nathan Moore ended the Boilermaker scoring with a 15-6 major decision over Matt Ishler, a win that drew Purdue to within six at 16-10. However, losses at heavyweight and 125 and a forfeit at 133 closed the dual.

Purdue (7-3) moves on from San Luis Obispo to Bakersfield to take on the Roadrunners of Cal State-Bakersfield at noon.
