WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Boilermakers opened the 2005-06 dual season on Saturday at the Purdue Duals and steamrolled through the competition, posting four victories at the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility.

Three Boilermaker grapplers posted 4-0 records on the day, and two others went 3-0 to lead Purdue to the day's sweep.

Nathan Moore, Purdue's 197-pound junior, was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Duals after a four-win performance, including two pins and a major decision.

Juniors John DeCeault (165 pounds) and Jason Cook (141 pounds) also posted perfect 4-0 days. DeCeault recorded a fall, major decision and decision, and picked up one win by forfeit. Cook had a similar showing, scoring a technical fall, two decisions, and one win by forfeit.

In the opening dual of the day, Purdue overcame a 12-3 deficit after four weights to post a 21-15 win over Bloomsburg. A 15-0 technical fall by Cook over Joe Hasseman kick-started the Boilermaker comeback. Decisions by senior Doug Withsandley (149), DeCeault and Nick Corpe (174) pushed Purdue ahead of the Huskies 17-15. The win was secured by a 19-9 major decision by senior Ben Wissel, ranked third in the nation at 184 pounds.

The wins by Corpe and Wissel were the first in each grappler's 3-0 afternoon.

Another come-from-behind victory was needed in the second dual as Eastern Michigan had a 14-7 advantage after six matches. Three major decisions in the next four matches for the Boilermakers enabled Purdue to post the win and a 2-0 start to the season, defeating the Eagles 23-14.

Purdue scored bonus-point wins against EMU by Moore (10-0), 157-pounder Jake Murphy (8-0), DeCeault (11-1) and Wissel (26-10).

The road to victory was less bumpy against William Penn as the Boilermakers cruised to a 38-4 win. Moore opened the dual with a pin in 2:16 and included a 13-4 major decision at 174 by sophomore Nick Skinner and a 23-11 major by Wissel. A medical default at 149 and a forfeit by the Statesmen at 165 fueled the lopsided victory.

In the final dual of the day, Purdue slammed a 40-8 victory against Indianapolis, the third consecutive year the Boilermakers posted a 30-plus-point win over the Greyhounds. Again, it was Moore who started the dual with a fall, getting his fourth pin of the season. DeCeault added a fall at 165 and was followed by a stick by Nick Skinner, wrestling up a weight at 184 pounds.

The Boilermakers' competitive schedule takes a break until after Christmas when Purdue heads to Evanston, Ill., for the prestigious Midlands Championships. The two-day tournament is slated for Dec. 29-30, and features the best in collegiate and amateur wrestling.
