Moore Than A Wissel

Nov. 6, 2005

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Ben Wissel and Nathan Moore took control of the 2005-06 wrestling season early, claiming titles at the 2005 Eastern Michigan Open at the Bowen Field House on the EMU campus. In all, seven Purdue grapplers earned podium spots in the one-day tournament.

Wissel, ranked among the top five 184-pounders in the nation, registered 28 takedowns over the course of five matches without allowing his opponents a single offensive point.

Moore came into the tournament ranked 17th by Amateur Wrestling News and W.I.N. Magazine. The 197-pounder went 4-0 to claim the title, his first tournament crown since winning the Ashland Open in 2003, his first collegiate tournament.

Joining Wissel and Moore on the awards podium were junior Jason Cook (third, 141), freshman Nick Corpe (fourth, 174), freshman Jake Patacsil (fifth, 141), freshman Aaron Keough (fifth, 285), and senior Doug Withstandley (sixth, 149).

The Boilermakers travel to Ithaca, N.Y., for their next team action, competing in the Body Bar Invitational on Nov. 19.
