WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team wrapped up competition at the 2005 Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich. The tournament was the Boilermakers' second-to-last of the fall season.

Eric Hodgman provided the brightest highlights over the weekend. The junior won three qualifying singles matches to gain entry into the main draw. His run was cut short, however, when he fell in the first round of the main draw to fifth-seeded and 77th-ranked Sheeva Parbhu of Notre Dame.

Junior Jarred Leibner also lost in the first round of the main draw, dropping a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Notre Dame's 10th-seeded Eric Langenkamp.

Freshman P.J. Rose went 1-1 in singles qualifying, as did senior Colin Foster.

In doubles, Hodgman and Rose won two matches before falling 8-4 to top-seeded and 19th-ranked Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustaffson of Louisville. The freshman pair of Kelubia Mabatah and Kurt Zaske, along with the tandem of Foster and junior Scott Warner, lost in the first round of doubles.

Purdue head coach Tim Madden took some positives from the tournament.

"We are a young team but we are athletic, and some of that athleticism showed," Madden said. "Our confidence improved this weekend."

The Boilermakers will test that confidence in three weeks, when they compete at the Big Ten Indoor Singles Championships in East Lansing, Mich.
