WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's swimming and diving team dominated the field at the Indiana Intercollegiates, winning 11 of the 12 events and besting the rest of the field by nealy 500 points.

The Boilermakers were led in the pool by freshman John Schmitt, who finished first in the 200 free and 100 free. Schmitt took first in the 200 free with a 1:43.63, and recorded a 46.77 in a winning effort in the 100 free.

Purdue's 856.5 points was more than enough for the team title, while Ball State finished second with 358.5 points, 498 behind the Boilermakers. In third with 296 points was Indianapolis, while IUPUI came in fourth with 198. Fifth place was taken by Rose-Hulman with 117, and the final team in the standings was Vincennes with an even 100.

Steve LoBue and Josh Karshen shared the top spot in the diving evenths, with LoBue finishing first in the 1-meter with 329.60 points to Karshen's second-place total of 325.95. In the 3-meter, Karshen took top honors with 340.75, ahead of LoBue's second-place showing with 312.60. In both events, JR Hillis was third and Zach Shultz placed fourth, giving Purdue the top four spots in each event.

All-American Giordan Pogioli claimed the title in the 100 breast with a 55.86, and swam the second length in Purdue's winning effort in the 200 medley relay. Joining Pogioli on that relay foursome were Joe Colley, Jon Ranochak and Andre Pereira.

Ranochak followed up his relay win with an individual victory 100 butterfly, and Pereira was part of another relay win on Purdue's winning 200 free relay squad.

Other Purdue invidual wins came from Trey Smith (50 free), Tim Watts (100 back), and Romain Maire (500 free). On the afternoon, 13 Boilermakers individuals earned at least 30 points for Purdue, while 10 others scored at least 20.

Next up for the Boilermakers in a meet with in-state rival Notre Dame on Oct. 29 at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
