BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Despite an impressive show at 125 pounds to begin the dual, the Purdue Boilermakers fell to rival Indiana on Friday evening in front of a crowd of approximately 300 at University Gym, 18-12. The Boilermakers are now 8-11 overall and 2-5 in the Big Ten.
Purdue opened the dual with a 4-3 win at 125 pounds as freshman Brandon Tucker (Broken Arrow, Okla.) defeated fifth-ranked Joe Dubuque. Tucker took down Dubuque in the first period and led 3-2 after three minutes. The two traded escapes for the only other scoring in the match, giving Tucker his second win of the season over a Big Ten grappler ranked in the top five. Dubuque had previously been undefeated in dual action (17-0) and in Big Ten duals (5-0).
The Boilermakers posted decisions at 149, 184 and 197 pounds to keep the match close, but fell at heavyweight in a match that would have tied the team score.
