ATHENS, Ga. - Ten members of Purdue's diving team began competition Monday at the Georgia Diving Invitational. The Boilermakers' top finishers were Carrie McCambridge and Josh Karshen, who both placed eighth in their respective events.

McCambridge earned her eighth-place showing off the 3-meter springboard, finishing with 447.60 points. Her top individual dive score was 51.80 points, which she attained on her fourth attempt, a backward twisting dive with 2 1/2 twists and 1 1/2 somersaults.

McCambridge's teammates Amanda Miller (387.90), Sarah Lamping (337.45) and Amber Kerns (302.35) placed 20th, 26th and 27th in the all-star field. Kerns' and Lamping's totals were personal bests.

Ashley Rubenstein, formerly of Auburn, won the 3-meter title with 492.85 points. Jenna Dreyer of Miami, Lauren King of USC, Alison Riccobono of Penn State and Jessica Wantz of LSU rounded out the top five.

Karshen was the only Purdue diver to advance to the finals of the 1-meter springboard competition, finishing with 278.50 points. His eighth-place preliminary score was slightly better at 287.30. Karshen's best dive came on his second attempt; a reverse, 2 1/2 somersault, finishing in a tucked position, which earned him 51.00 points.

Teammate Steven LoBue just missed the 12-man finals, placing 13th with 273.40 points. Clay Davis also placed among the top 20, with his 18th-place total of 250.85. J.R. Hillis (217.75), Bob Hennessy (199.05) and David Hanisch (189.25) placed 23rd, 24th and 27th.

Georgia's Chris Colwill won the 1-meter title with 366.10 points, beating Auburn's Steve Segerlin's runner-up score of 330.30.

Diving resumes Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the women competing off the 1-meter and the men going off the 3-meter. Live results of the Georgia Invitational can be found here.
