WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - In the 80th meeting between the Purdue Boilermakers (6-7) and the 19th-ranked Northwestern Wildcats (8-1), the 'Cats left the Purdue with a deep scratch, winning the dual by a score of 27-10. Boilermakers with key wins at 149, 184 and 197 pounds.

"I felt we had a few guys wrestle like they should, including Doug (Withstandley)," head coach Jessie Reyes said. "Doug has wrestled consistently the entire season.

"Ben Wissel found a way to come away with a win over a ranked opponent, and Nate Moore looked great against (13th-ranked Matt) Delguyd," Reyes said. "But there were a few matches where we could have made smarter decisions that could've made the difference between a win and a loss. It was a disappointing loss today."

Junior 149-pounder Doug Withstandley came out with intensity after consecutive losses for the Boilermakers at 133 and 141 pounds. A little over two minutes into the first period, Withstandley took down sophomore Jimmy Kim, earning the two points for a takedown and two nearfall points. Starting in the bottom position to begin the second period, Withstandley would reverse Kim in only 11 seconds and increase his lead with three nearfall points. Withstandley dominated the remainder of the match and blanked Kim by a 10-0 major decision.

After a dropping matches at 157 and 165 pounds versus former NCAA qualifiers and forfeiting at 174 pounds due to injury, the Boilermakers rebounded with back-to-back wins by Wissel and Moore. Wissel, coming off of a difficult weekend at the Wendy's Duals, pulled off the win over 19th-ranked Matt Tamillow. Tied up at 2-2 with only three seconds left, Wissel executed the takedown that gave him the 4-2 decisive victory.

However, it was Moore's match against 13th-ranked Matt Delguyd that was the highlight of the day for the squad. Ending the second period all tied up at 2-2, Moore, after both a nosebleed and a hard knock in the back of the head, returned to the match with fierce intensity. With a quick escape at the beginning of the third period, Moore held on to his one-point lead as tensions and excitement rose, pulling off the upset over former NCAA qualifier Delguyd by a 3-2 decision.

The Boilermakers return to the mat this Friday as they travel to Ohio State to take on the Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio.
