WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Shannon Schonrock scored a career-high 25 points and No. 11 Minnesota played its trademark stellar defense in a 58-38 victory over No. 20 Purdue, the Gophers' first win in Mackey Arena in 20 years.

Schonrock made a career-high 7-of-11 3-pointers, and the Gophers (14-2, 4-0 Big Ten) held Purdue to 32-percent shooting to win their sixth game in a row.

Liz Podominick added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Gophers, who had lost 17 straight at Purdue dating to 1985.

Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Purdue (10-5, 3-2), which has already lost more games than it did all of last season.

The Gophers started slow after star Janel McCarville got into foul trouble, but they turned up the defense to cruise to the win.

After making their first seven shots, the Boilermakers faltered badly under intense defensive pressure.

The Gophers closed the first half with a 14-0 run, and Purdue went nearly 14 minutes without a basket - missing 18 straight shots.

Things looked good for Purdue early after McCarville picked up her second foul just over 3:30 into the game and sat out the rest of the first half.

When she went to the bench, Purdue promptly went on an 11-1 run capped by Katie Gearlds' 3-pointer that gave the Boilermakers a 16-6 lead.

Minnesota came right back with a 13-0 spurt of its own fueled by consecutive steals and layups by Jamie Broback. Schonrock then hit a 3-pointer for a 19-16 lead.

The Boilermakers took one more lead, when Erin Lawless hit a 3-pointer for a 24-19 edge with 7:39 to go in the first half. That's when the Gophers clamped down, and Purdue didn't get its next basket until 13:46 remained in the game.

In between, Schonrock kept burying 3-pointers. The junior moved into second place on the school's all-time list and has now made 140 3-pointers.

Shannon Bolden scored just four points for Minnesota, but played a big role by shutting down preseason All-American Gearlds, who scored just three points on 1-of-9 shooting.

Minnesota had 12 steals and 22 points off 23 Purdue turnovers.
