WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team lost 5-2 at Wisconsin on Sunday. The win for the unranked Badgers was their first in four Big Ten matches this spring, and improved their overall record to 6-9. The 75th-ranked Boilermakers, meanwhile, dropped to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the conference with the loss.
Wisconsin claimed the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. In singles, Purdue managed just two victories from senior Troy Havens and freshman Eric Hodgman. Havens came from behind to beat Scott Green 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, while Hodgman knocked off Pete Amundson 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.
Purdue head coach Tim Madden was displeased by the loss, the Boilermakers' third straight and sixth in their last seven outings.
"This is a very disappointing loss for us," Madden said. "We have to get better at translating what we do and how hard we work in practice to the competition court."
Purdue will have a chance to regroup next weekend, when it returns home to play host to Ohio State and Penn State on April 10 and 11. The Boilermakers are 4-0 at home this spring, compared to 2-7 on road and neutral courts.
