WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team won its second straight match, beating No. 53 Michigan 5-2 in Ann Arbor on Saturday. The Boilermakers, ranked 68th, are now 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten, while the Wolverines are 11-7 and 2-5.

Purdue head coach Tim Madden barely could contain his happiness following the victory.

"You can't count us out," Madden said. "This was out best performance of the year, in terms of having every court competing with high energy. We played with a great amount of confidence."

Purdue built that confidence early by winning the doubles point. A victory by sophomore Paul Rose and freshman Scott Warner at No. 3 gave the Boilermakers an edge, and the junior tandem of Sounak Chatterjee and Filip Koziell finished the job with a 9-7 win over Anthony Jackson and David Anving at No. 2.

In singles, Rose fought back from a set down for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 win against Jackson at No. 1. Junior David Robinson beat Ryan Heller 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. Chatterjee doubled his pleasure by knocking off Steve Peretz 7-6, 7-5, while sophomore Colin Foster delivered a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 come-from behind win against Anving at No. 4.

Madden was most impressed by the play of Koziell and Chatterjee.

"Filip played some of the best, most-determined doubles of the season, and he came up with big shots when we needed them," Madden said. "Sounak was the player of the day in singles. Both were relentless."

Purdue will return to action Sunday, when it faces Michigan State in East Lansing, starting at noon.
