WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Paul Rose upset No. 30 Pierrick Ysern, but the Purdue men's tennis team was unable to post a team victory at San Diego on Tuesday. The 57th-ranked Boilermakers dropped a 5-2 decision to the 37th-ranked Toreros, who improved to 7-5 with the win. Purdue is now 5-4.
The Boilermakers faced a 1-0 deficit after losing all three doubles matches to start the contest. Rose delivered a 7-6, 6-3 win over Ysern at No. 1, while senior Troy Havens outlasted Jason Pongsrikul 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2.
Purdue got no more help in singles, however, as junior David Robinson, sophomore Colin Foster, and freshmen Jarred Leibner and Eric Hodgman all lost in straight sets.
The Boilermakers will continue play in San Diego on Thursday, March 18, when they face Princeton. Purdue's spring break trip will conclude on Friday, when it plays Oklahoma State.
