FORT WORTH, Texas - No. 45 TCU defeated the Boilermaker women's tennis team 4-1 in a rain shortened match Sunday afternoon. Only singles were played in the match, which was forced inside because of the weather conditions.
Purdue scored its first and only point of the match as junior Shawna Zuccarini (3-1) defeated Karla Mancinas 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles spot. TCU then won at one, two and four in straight sets. Freshman Hala Sufi kept Purdue's hopes alive sending her No. 3 singles match with No. 89 Saber Pierce to a third set, but was overcome in the end by the senior. Pierce won the first set 6-3, then Sufi answered with a 6-4 win, but Pierce clinched the win with a 6-3 third set.
The loss is the fourth straight for the Boilermakers (3-6), three of which came at the hands of higher ranked teams. The team will now regroup before playing host to Big Ten foe Illinois at 11 a.m. on March 7.
