WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team beat Indiana State 6-1 at the Lafayette Sports Center Saturday afternoon.

The Boilermakers took the doubles point 8-4, 8-3, 9-8. At No. 1, David Robinson and Paul Rose overcame Ivan D'Argence Arceo and Aaron Phillips. At No. 2, it was Sounak Chatterjee and Filip Koziell over R.J. Nagel and Dewald Linde. Colin Foster and Troy Havens topped Andrey Kumantsov and Boyd Michau at No. 3 doubles.

Purdue nearly swept singles play, with the lone ISU victory of d'Argence Arceo over Troy Havens at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 1 singles, Rose beat Kumantsov 6-4, 6-0. At No. 3, Robinson overcame Nagel 6-2, 6-2. Foster topped Michau 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4, and at No. 5 Jarred Leibner beat Phillips. At No. 6 singles, Eric Hodgman bested Linde 6-1, 6-1.

"We've really been trying to create a competitive advantage and dictate matches," said coach Tim Madden. "For the most part, we did that today, and that's important for a young team like ours."

Madden singled out the play of freshman Hodgman, who is 4-0 at No. 6 singles.

"Eric looks hungry out there," he said. "He has worked his way into the starting lineup by outworking others."

The loss drops Indiana State to 1-4 on the season. The Boilermakers stand at 4-3 heading into a Sunday match with N.C. State at 11 a.m. at the Lafayette Sports Center.
