WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 40 Missouri at the Lafayette Sports Center on Sunday. The loss, Purdue's first at home this season, brings the 46th-ranked Boilermakers' record to 3-3. The Tigers, meanwhile, improve to 5-0 with the win.
Missouri got off on the right foot by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the first point of the day.
Purdue, which handed Missouri a 4-3 loss in Columbia last spring, needed to win four of six singles matches to pull out the victory. Unfortunately, the Boilermakers managed just three. Freshmen Hala Sufi and Alyssa Rodriguez won at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, while senior Melissa Woods picked up a win at No. 6. Sufi's win over Hana Kraftova keeps her perfect on the year, with a 6-0 record at No. 3 singles.
Purdue will return to action Feb. 21, when it plays host to Kentucky. The Wildcats currently are ranked 12th in the nation. Each of the Boilermakers' three losses this year have come to teams ranked in the top 50.
