Women's Basketball Beats OGBM Legends 84-61

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's basketball team came back from a 36-33 halftime deficit to post an 84-61 exhibition victory against OGBM Legends on Tuesday.

The Boilermakers trailed by as many as seven in the first half, with most of their problems caused by 11 turnovers. The Legends outrebounded Purdue 18-16 in the first 20 minutes.

Purdue led 8-7 on a pull-up jumper by freshman Katie Gearlds early, but OGBM quickly answered to reclaim the edge. The Boilermakers did not lead again until the 15:58 mark of the second half, when Gearlds, the 2003 Indiana Miss Basketball from Beech Grove High School, knocked down a three-pointer to put Purdue up 42-40.

Over the last 16 minutes, Purdue outscored OGBM 42-21.

Gearlds finished with a game-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a steal in 24 minutes. She committed just one turnover.

Senior All-America candidate Shereka Wright scored 16 points for the Boilermakers, with eight of those coming from the free throw line.

Junior Emily Heikes, in a starting role, added 14 points and six rebounds.

Senior Lindsey Hicks led Purdue with six rebounds, while classmate Erika Valek dished out a team-high five assists.

Vita Redding, an Ohio native and former Brown standout, led OGBM with 14 points.
