ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Shereka Wright scored 19 points and No. 8 Purdue pulled away late to defeat Wake Forest 76-57 in the Golden Knights Classic on Saturday.
Beth Jones added 12 points and Erin Lawless scored 11 for the Boilermakers (4-1), who closed the game on a 14-4 run.
Purdue was streaky throughout. The Boilermakers opened the game on a 10-0 run, then used a 12-0 burst midway through the second half to open a 15-point lead with 7:41 left.
Wake Forest (3-1) got the lead back to single digits, but never got closer than nine in the final minutes.
Wake Forest trailed by as many as 11 in the first half, yet rallied and tied the game at 43 when a 12-footer by Liz Strunk fell with 19:27 remaining.
The Demon Deacons, though, didn't connect on another field goal for the next 7:37 and turned the ball over nine times during that stretch.
Strunk finished with 17 points and Cotelia Bond-Young added 14, all but one coming in the first half, for Wake Forest.
