Havens And Rose Bow Out Of ITA All-Americans

Oct. 8, 2003

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue men's tennis senior Troy Havens and sophomore Paul Rose lost their second-round qualifying match at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga, on Wednesday.

Havens and Rose fell 9-8 to fifth-seeded and 40th-ranked Jon Endrikat and Brian Morton of UC Irvine. A victory by the Boilermaker duo would have propelled it into the main draw of the national championship event.

Purdue assistant coach Cris James, who was with Havens and Rose in Chattanooga, said the pair was disappointed in its finish, despite winning its first four matches in the tournament.

"Troy and Paul lost to a very good team," James said. "They got off to a slow start and fought back, but they didn't get it done. They're disappointed about not making the main draw, but they had a pretty good tournament."

Havens and Rose will rejoin their teammates for the Boilermaker Invitational, scheduled for Oct. 18 and 19, in West Lafayette.
