WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's tennis junior Amy Walgenbach lost 6-4, 6-3 to Saras Arasu of Duke in the first round of qualifying at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles, on Tuesday.
In a consolation match, Walgenbach dropped a 0-6, 6-3, 6-0 decision to UCLA's Sarah Gregg.
Walgenbach is ranked 75th in the preseason ITA rankings, while Arasu, the No. 9 seed in the qualifying draw, is 43rd. Gregg is 56th.
Walgenbach and senior teammate Gretchen Haynor, who bowed out of the single-elimination national championship tournament's prequalifying round, will rejoin the rest of the Boilermakers for the ITA Midwest Regionals, slated to begin Oct. 23.
