WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Four Purdue men's tennis players recorded wins at the Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville, on Sunday, the last day of the three-day tournament.
Junior Seth McKinley, sophomore Paul Rose, sophomore Colin Foster and freshman Jarred Leibner all produced victories in consolation matches of both the A and B flights. McKinley defeated Virginia's Nick Meythaler 8-5; Rose beat Cavalier Darrin Cohen 8-5; Foster defeated Old Dominion's Dom Manilla 8-3; and Leibner blanked the Monarchs' Simon Sjogren 8-0.
Junior Filip Koziell, junior David Robinson, and freshman Eric Hodgman all lost in straight sets to opponents from N.C. State, Virginia and Wake Forest.
Senior Troy Havens did not play on Sunday, a day that featured one round of singles matches for the more than 60 competitors.
Purdue head coach Tim Madden said the Boilermakers' improvement from Friday to Sunday was a positive takeaway from their first fall tournament.
"We got stronger as the tournament progressed," Madden said. "The theme for the weekend was improvement. We have lots of work to do, but we're headed in the right direction."
The Boilermakers will return to action on Friday, Oct. 3, when they begin competition at the Notre Dame Tom Fallon Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
