WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Freshman Hala Sufi and sophomore Brittany Reitz placed third in their respective flights at the St. Mary's Women's Fall Tennis Classic in Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday.
Sufi beat Texas A&M's Lauren Walker 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in Flight Four, while Reitz downed Ohio State's Sonia Ruzimovsky 7-5, 6-0 in Flight Six.
Freshman Alyssa Rodriguez finished in fourth place following a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Tennessee's Victoria Jones in Flight Five.
Junior Amy Walgenbach and rookie Emily Bomersback both finished in fifth place. Walgenbach, the 75th-ranked player in the nation, beat Furman's Mary Neill Hagood 6-3, 7-5 in Flight One, while Bomersback beat N.C. State's Lauren Berry 6-3, 6-2 in Flight Eight.
Senior co-captain Gretchen Haynor finished sixth in Flight Three following a 6-4, 6-2 loss to the Wolfpack's Nandita Chandrasekar.
Junior Catie McLevish finished eighth in Flight Seven after a 6-4, 6-1 loss to N.C. State's Augustina Arachevaleta.
Junior Shawna Zuccarini, whose seventh-place finish in Flight Two was determined on Saturday, played an extra match against Ohio State's Lindsay Williams on Sunday. The Buckeye beat the Boilermaker 6-2, 6-2.
Purdue will have a weekend off before returning to play at the Kentucky Invitational from Oct. 3 to 5, in Lexington, Ky.
