Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 to Northwestern

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team fell 5-2 at Northwestern on March 30.

The match began by Purdue winning the doubles point.

At the No. 2 spot, junior Melissa Woods and sophomore Shawna Zuccarini upended Ruth Barnes and Andrea Yung 9-8 while junior Gretchen Haynor and senior Melissa Iqbal defeated Jamie Peisel and Kristi Roemer 8-6 at the No. 3 spot.

With the Wildcats trailing behind, Purdue could not maintain the momentum in the singles competition.

Senior Missy Wright was the lone Boilermakers who scored a point in singles at the No. 6 spot. Wright defeated Roemer 6-3, 6-3, while Northwestern's three ranked players picked up points at the No. 1, 2, and 4 spots. The Wildcats clinched the match at the No. 5 spot when sophomore Lara Burgarello fell 7-5, 6-0 to Ruth Barnes.

The Purdue women's tennis team will return to West Lafayette for competition on April 5 and 6 when they host Ohio State and Penn State.
