WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 48 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., today.
In doubles, the duo of junior Melissa Woods and sophomore Shawna Zuccarini defeated Notre Dame's tandem of Lauren Connelly and Alicia Salas 9-7 at the No. 2 spot. The Fighting Irish defeated the Boilermakers at the No. 1 and 3 spots for the doubles point
The Boilermakers wanted to regain control of match in the singles competition.
New to the mix was senior Melissa Iqbal, who returned to the singles lineup after being out for six weeks due to a shoulder injury. Iqbal scored the only point for Purdue at the No. 3 spot by upending Katie Cunha in three sets.
Notre Dame went on to defeat Purdue at the No. 1, 4 and 6 spots to clinch the match.
The Purdue women's tennis team will hope to regain its composure, as they will resume conference play on Saturday, March 29 at Wisconsin. The Boilermakers have a 5-8 overall and 0-2 conference records.
