HOMESTEAD, Fla. - The Boilermakers finished their season-opening trip to Florida with a 3-1 record after dominating Sacred Heart 15-6 on Sunday in the Papa John's Homestead Challenge. The Pioneers dropped to 0-1.

Purdue jumped on top with five runs in the second inning, including a Tyler Johnstone two-run home run to left field, his first as a Boilermaker.

Purdue faltered in the fifth inning, as Boilermaker hurlers gave up six runs. Greg Delmonico of Sacred Heart drove a two-run home run to left-center to highlight the onslaught.

Purdue responded with two runs in the sixth, three in the seventh, and three in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

The Boilermaker bullpen pitched 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball, giving up only three hits while striking out five.

Offensively, Johnstone was two for five, with five runs scored and three RBI. Andy Rempel scored two runs, drove in three and stole three bases on four-for-five hitting.

Purdue had six doubles, one triple and one home run in the victory.

Brent Coudron got the win after pitching 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief.

Eric Bushor took the loss after allowing seven runs in five innings.

Purdue is scheduled to play Indiana State at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in Terre Haute, weather permitting.
