WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday. The loss drops the 49th-ranked Boilermakers to 6-4 (2-0 Big Ten).

The Islanders had to rally from behind to pull the upset after Purdue got off to a promising start. The Boilermakers swept the three doubles matches to win the point. Texas native Scott Mayer, a senior, and junior Troy Havens teamed for an 8-4 win over Goncalo Figueiredo and Luis Moris at No. 1. Senior Andrew Wakefield and freshman Paul Rose won 8-4 over Christophe Bergues and Oscar Roman at No. 2. At No. 3, sophomore Sounak Chatterjee and junior Seth McKinley, also a Texas native, won 8-3 over Loren Collins and Eusebie Oprea.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi quickly regained momentum by winning the first three singles matches at No. 1, 2 and 6.

Straight-set wins by Wakefield at No. 2, and Rose at No. 4, brought the Boilermakers back into a 3-3 tie with the Islanders.

The outcome of the match came down to the result at the No. 5 position. Sophomore David Robinson won the first set 6-3, but dropped the next two 6-3, 6-4, as David Plasencia clinched the match for the Islanders.
