HOMESTEAD, Fla. - The Purdue baseball team outdualed Boston College at the Papa John's Homestead Challenge, winning a hard-fought 1-0 contest.
The Boilermakers improved to 2-1 on the season, while Boston College dropped to 0-4 on the season. Senior Daniel Underwood drove the ninth-inning single past third base to score Nick McIntyre from second base for the only run of the game. McIntyre reached second base on a two-out double before Underwood's game-winning hit.
Brent Coudron pitched three innings of hitless relief to garner the win. In his outing, Coudron struck out four and walked two. Starter Scott Byrnes tossed the first six innings, yielding three hits, while striking out six.
Purdue had six hits in game, two by Underwood and two by Eric Wolfe. For Boston College, Mike Gauthier was saddled with the loss after starter Kevin Shepard pitched 7.1 innings of shutout ball.
The Boilermakers conclude their stin in Homestead on Sunday at 12:30 against Sacred Heart, who will be playing their season opener. Senior Josh Herman will get the nod on the mound for the Purdue.
