West Lafayette, Ind. - After a 12-day layoff following its 4-3 win over Western Michigan on Feb. 9, the Purdue men's tennis team was unable to muster another win against Ball State today in Muncie, Ind. The No. 48 ranked Boilermakers fell 5-2 to the No. 74 ranked Cardinals, which drops Purdue to a 3-2 overall spring record.
The Cardinals earned the doubles point early on, winning all three doubles matches.
Given the chance to retaliate against the Cardinals during singles play, the Boilermakers only came through winning two of the six singles matches. At No. 3, Troy Havens defeated Ball State's Kevin Burnett 6-3, 6-1, while Seth McKinley won 6-3, 6-4 against the Cardinals' Klint Knable at No. 5.
The Boilermakers travel back home to West Lafayette on Feb. 23 to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Play is expected to begin with doubles at 11 a.m.
