Men's Tennis Concludes Its Weekend At Notre Dame With Success

South Bend, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team concluded its third day at the Tom Fallon Invitational today, winning seven of eight singles matches against host Notre Dame. The Boilermakers lost only one match and won two matches in third-set tiebreakers.

Senior Scott Mayer, ranked 72nd in the ITA preseason poll, got the Boilermakers off to a good start, defeating the Fighting Irish's Brent D'Amico 7-5, 6-3.

The Boilermakers won six more matches in the hidden-dual format. Junior Troy Havens, a South Bend native, defeated Patrick Buchanan in a three-set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-3, 1-0, (10-7). The Boilermaker junior went 5-1 overall this weekend and posted a 2-1 record in singles play. Sophomore David Robinson followed his teammate with a win over Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo 6-4, 7-5.

Freshman Paul Rose picked up a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6) victory against Eric Langenkamp. Junior Seth McKinley beat Paul McNaughton 6-2, 6-2, while freshman Colin Foster beat Peter Graham 7-5, 6-3. Sophomore Sounak Chatterjee ended his match with a three-set tiebreaker victory against Ben Hatten. The Boilermaker defeated Hatten 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).

Junior Andrew Wakefield was the lone Boilermaker unable to get into the win column. He fell 6-3, 6-3 to Luis Haddock.

Purdue will continue its fall schedule next Friday through Sunday, Oct. 4-6, when it heads to Tampa, Fla., for the South Florida Invitational.
