Baseball Falls 10-4 At Valparaiso

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue dropped a 10-4 decision to Valparaiso on a chilly Tuesday afternoon in Michigan City, Ind.

The Boilermakers got on the board in the top of first when Nick McIntyre doubled home Wilson James for a 1-0 lead.

Purdue added another run in the second when John Manuel doubled home Brad Kriner to make it 2-0.

Valparaiso answered by scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning on RBI singles by Kyle Young, Brandon Sadler and Marc Boggio and a sacrifice fly by Brad Tokarz.

The Crusaders added extended their lead to 7-2 when Brandon Sadler hit a three-run home run in the third inning.

Purdue cut the lead to 7-4 in the fourth inning when McIntyre doubled home two runs as James and John Gusich crossed the plate.

Valparaiso answered with three runs in the fourth to take a 10-4 lead. Mark Pedersen delivered a RBI single Young drove in two on a single later in the frame.

McIntyre finished the afternoon with three RBI and two hits. James also added two hits for Purdue.

The Boilermakers, 21-26 overall and 11-13 in the Big Ten, resume play on Friday, opening a four-game weekend series with intrastate rival Indiana at Lambert Field.

-Nick McIntyre extended his hitting streak to seven games, dating to game one of the April 28 doubleheader at Ohio State. He also extended his consecutive start streak to 107 games.
-McIntyre's two doubles moved him into eighth place on the Purdue all-time list with 39 two-baggers.
-Jason Helbling made his first start as a Boilermaker.
-Wilson James equaled his career-high with two hits and has hit safely in his last four games.
