WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue fell 7-4 at Michigan in its final game of the 2002 season.

The Boilermakers opened the scoring in their first at-bat when Kris Luce drove home Nick McIntyre, who doubled earlier in the inning, on a sacrifice fly for a early 1-0 lead.

McIntyre extended Purdue's advantage to 2-0 when he drove in Brad Kriner with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Michigan evened the score at 2-2 in the third inning behind an RBI single by Brandon Jominy and an RBI double by Matt Butler. Blake Rutkowski gave the Wolverines a 3-2 lead when he doubled to center field to score Butler.

Adam Fazio and Kriner tallied consecutive singles in the fifth inning before Daniel Underwood delivered an RBI single, plating Fazio and drawing Purdue even at three.

Michigan took a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning when Nate Wright's single scored Jake Fox and Mike Sokol.

Fazio blasted a solo home run over the left field fence in the top of the seventh to draw Purdue within 5-4.

Jake Fox extended Michigan's lead to 7-4 with a two-run homer in the eighth inning to provide the game's final margin.

The Boilermakers complete the season with a 24-32 overall record and a 13-19 Big Ten mark.

Additional Game Notes
-Nick McIntyre belted his 40th career double, placing him in a tie for eighth on the all-time Purdue list.
-Starting pitcher Josh Herman retired the first six batters of the game.
-Brian Karpel set a new career-high by throwing 5.0 innings in relief, topping his previous longest outing of 4.1 innings at Ohio State on April 27. He equaled his career-best with three strikeouts.
