WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue dropped the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with Indiana, 9-6. The Boilermakers were the designated home team in the game at Sembower Field in Bloomington.

Vasili Spanos put Indiana on top with a three-run home run in the third inning for a 3-0 Hoosier lead.

Purdue got on the board when David Harrell scored on Gibran Hamdan's drop of Mitch Koester's infield pop-up, cutting the lead to 3-1.

The Hoosiers extended their lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning when Kennard Jones' RBI single scored Josh Romero.

The Boilermakers loaded the bases in the fifth inning on three consecutive bunt singles by John Gusich, Brad Kriner and Daniel Underwood. Gusich scored on a fielder's choice to trim the margin to 4-2 before Adam Fazio laced a single to left to plate Kriner and make it a one-run game. With two outs and a two-strike count, Mitch Koester placed a single down the right field line scoring Underwood and Fazio for a 5-4 Purdue lead, its first of the game.

Josh Romero gave Indiana the lead at 6-5 in the top of the sixth with a triple off the top of the right field fence, scoring Mark Calkins and Hamdan. The Hoosiers extended the margin to 9-5 later in the frame when Eric Blakeley hit a three-run double down the left field line.

The Boilermakers started their last at-bat with consecutive singles by Fazio and Harrell before Simon Klink doubled home Fazio, cutting the lead to 9-6, the game's final margin.

Purdue, 22-29 overall and 12-16 in the Big Ten, return to Lambert Field for its home finale, facing Evansville on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Fans can listen to Wednesday afternoon's game locally on WAZY-AM (1410) or worldwide via the Internet on www.purduesports.com.

The Boilermakers head to Michigan this weekend for their final Big Ten series of the season beginning Friday in Ann Arbor.
