WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue dropped game three of its series against Indiana, 4-2, in the first game of a doubleheader at Sembower Field in Bloomington. The Boilermakers were the designated home team in the contest.
David Harrell opened the scoring for Purdue with a solo home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the second. It was his third consecutive game with a home run, all against Indiana.
The Hoosiers answered with two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. Kenny Marrs single home Jay Brant before Kennard Jones on a throwing error by Boilermaker centerfielder Brad Kriner.
Purdue knotted the game at three in the bottom of the inning when John Gusich led off the frame with a solo home run over the left field fence.
Indiana took a 3-2 lead in the fourth when Gibran Hamdan doubled off the right-center field fence to bring home Nick Evans who reached base to lead off the inning on a hit by pitch.
The Hoosiers extended their lead to 4-2 in the fifth when Eric Blakeley singled home Kennard Jones, who led off the inning with an infield hit, for the game's final margin.
Purdue drops to 22-28 on the season, 12-15 in Big Ten play. The Boilermakers conclude their series with Indiana with the second game of a Tuesday doubleheader in Bloomington.

-David Harrell's three consecutive games with a home run is the longest streak of his Purdue career.
-John Gusich's home run was his first since game one of the April 14 doubleheader with Northwestern.
-Nick McIntyre's hit streak ended at nine games. It was his longest streak this season.
-Kris Luce belted out his 41st career double, moving him into seventh place on Purdue's all-time list.
-Brent Coudron threw his first collegiate complete game and set a new career-long start of 7.0 innings, besting a 6.0-inning performance on April 14 vs. Northwestern.
-Coudron also equaled his career-best of four strikeouts set on April 14 vs. Northwestern.
