Boilermakers Split Doubleheader At Illinois

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue's five-game Big Ten winning streak and six-game overall streak ended with a 5-1 loss at Illinois in the nitecap of Saturday's doubleheader.

Illinois opened the scoring on Drew Davidson's two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.

Brandon Cashman's infield single scored Trevor Frederickson to give the Fighting Illini a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

The Boilermakers drew within 3-1 in the third inning on Nick McIntyre's sacrifice fly. Adam Fazio, who doubled to lead off the inning, scored on the play.

Frederickson scored on Cashman's second RBI single of the game in the fourth inning to give Illinois a 4-1 lead.

The Illini tacked on one more run in the fifth when Andy Schutzenhofer scored on Luke Simmons' sacrifice fly providing the final 5-1 margin.

Josh Herman took the loss, his first of the season. Brian Karpel pitched 2.2 innings for the Boilermakers and Dustin Glant finished the contest with 1.1 innings of work.

Adam Fazio paced the Purdue offense, collecting two hits.

The Boilermakers, 12-14 and 5-2, and Fighting Illini conclude their series on Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. contest at Illinois Field.
