WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue dropped its series finale at Ohio State, 3-1, for a split in the four-game series against the first-place Buckeyes.

The Boilermakers struck first, taking a 1-0 first inning lead. Adam Fazio led-off the game with his first triple of the season, a shot off the center field wall, and scored when Daniel Underwood followed with a RBI single.

Ohio State answered, knotting the score at one when Christian Snavely hit a solo home run over the right field fence on the fourth pitch by Purdue starter Scott Byrnes.

The Buckeyes took a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Christian Snavely scored on a Byrnes wild pitch.

Nick Swisher extended the Ohio State lead to 3-1, when he led-off the sixth inning with a solo home run over the right-center field wall.

Byrnes took the loss, despite a solid performance. He allowed five hits and three runs in his first collegiate complete game. The freshman Ohio native set down seven-straight Buckeyes, including the side during both the fourth and fifth innings.

Buckeye starter Scott Lewis earned the win, throwing a complete game with a career-high 12 strikeouts.

The Boilermakers, 21-21 overall and 11-9 in the Big Ten, resume play next Saturday, May 4, hosting Minnesota in a 3 p.m. contest at Lambert Field. Next weekend's four-game series with the Golden Gophers will be played Saturday through Monday, including a Sunday doubleheader.

-Daniel Underwood recorded his 12th stolen base of the season, surpassing his previous season-best of 11 set during the 2001 season.
-Scott Byrnes established a career-long performance, tossing six innings for his first collegiate complete game in just his second Big Ten start. His previous best was 5.1 innings in his first conference start vs. Iowa on April 20.
