WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Chadd Blasko carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning and recorded his fifth win of the season in Purdue's 4-2 victory over Iowa at Lambert Field.
Blasko finished the game with 12 strikeouts over 8.2 innings, allowing just two eighth inning hits.
Iowa's Reed Pawelk dueled Blasko as the game was scoreless into the seventh inning. Purdue opened the scoring in the bottom of the seventh when David Harrell singled, advanced to second on a balk, advanced to third on John Gusich's single and came around to score on Andy Rempel's sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Boilermaker lead.
Purdue put two more runs up in the inning as Gusich scored when Mitch Koester's sacrificed and reached first on a throwing error. Adam Fazio added a sacrifice fly in the inning, scoring Brad Kriner to extend the Boilermaker advantage to 3-0.
The Hawkeyes scored their first run of the game, ending Blasko's 21.1 scoreless innings streak in the process, when John Paul Cappellano scored on Jeff Gremley's double, trimming the lead to 3-1.
Purdue added an insurance run in the eighth when Harrell blasted a solo home run, his third of the season, over the left field fence for a 4-1 lead.
Iowa cut the lead to 4-2 in the ninth on Cliff Bruckner's RBI single but had their rally thwarted by Matt Skripsky, who earned his fourth save of the season.
The Boilermakers are now 18-16 overall, 9-4 in the Big Ten, and return to action with a pair of seven-inning games on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The doubleheader will be aired live on WAZY-AM (1410) and on www.purduesports.com

-Chadd Blasko's scoreless inning streak ended at 21.1 innings. During that span he allowed just four hits and six walks, retiring 63 of 69 batters faced and holding opposing batters to a .063 average.
-Purdue has won four of its last five games vs. Iowa, all at Lambert Field.
-Matt Skripsky's sixth career save moves him into a tie for seventh-place on the all-time Purdue list with Jeff Reder.
-David Harrell's home run was the ninth of his Purdue career.
