WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue split a Sunday doubleheader with Northwestern at Lambert Field, winning the first game 3-2 and dropping the nitecap 10-5.

In game one, Brent Coudron earned the victory with an impressive outing in his first collegiate start. The freshman scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run and one walk while striking out four. Matt Skripsky pitched the final inning for his third save of the season.

The Boilermakers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Daniel Underwood belted a solo home run, his third round-tripper of the season.

Purdue extended its lead to 2-0 in the second when John Gusich blasted his third home run of the season, a solo shot.

Northwestern cut the lead to 2-1 in the seventh when Brandon Ackley doubled home pinch-runner Andy Adams.

In game two, Northwestern took an early 2-0 lead on Ken Padgett's two-run homer in the bottom of the second. Purdue knotted the score in the second inning on Brad Kriner's RBI single and Andy Rempel crossed the plate on a passed ball. The Boilermakers took the lead later in the inning on Mitch Koester's RBI single.

The Wildcats added a run in the third on Ackley's solo home run, to even the score at three. Northwestern took the lead in fifth when Ackley added his second home run of the day, a solo shot, for a 4-3 lead.

John Gusich's sacrifice fly scored Nick McIntyre in the fifth to even the score at four.

Northwestern posted six runs in the sixth inning on four hits and one error to take a 10-4 lead.

Purdue posted a run in the sixth when Wilson James' sacrifice bunt scored Andy Rempel, to cut the lead to 10-5, the game's final margin.

The Boilermakers are now 16-16 overall, 8-4 in the Big Ten, and return to action on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. game at Eastern Illinois. Purdue's next league contest is Friday vs. Iowa at Lambert Field, the first of a four-game weekend series.

-Sunday's game two loss was Purdue first loss at Lambert Field this season after beginning 7-0.
-The Boilermakers have won seven of their last eight games against Northwestern.
-Matt Skripsky earned his third of the season in game one, surpassing his previous career total of two.
-Brent Coudron earned the victory in his first collegiate start in game one.
-Heath Uppencamp started his first game of the season in game two and was his first since April 12, 2000 vs. Valparaiso.
