WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After waiting one day because of rain, Purdue opened its Big Ten home schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Northwestern, 1-0 and 3-2, Saturday at Lambert Field.

In game one, Chadd Blasko out-dueled Northwestern lefthander Ryan Bos and reliever Zach Schara. The Boilermaker right-hander tossed his third consecutive complete game to earn his fourth win of the season. He struck out five while allowing just three hits and one walk in seven innings.

Purdue posted its second consecutive last at-bat victory when Mitch Koester singled home Andy Rempel in the bottom of the seventh inning. Rempel had reached base with a walk and advanced to second on an errant pick-off attempt by Wildcat catcher Ken Padgett. Brad Kriner then reached base on an error by Schara before Koester plated the winning run.

In game two, Mitch Pruemer tossed a complete-game to earn his fifth win of the season. The sophomore allowed six hits and two runs while striking out two without issuing a walk.

The Boilermakers opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when Koester singled home Rempel. Adam Fazio then added a sacrifice bunt to score Kriner, giving Purdue a 2-0 lead.

Northwestern answered with a run in the fourth inning when Brandon Ackley scored on a wild pitch to cut the margin to 2-1.

Purdue regained the two-run advantage in the bottom of the fourth when Koester doubled home Brad Kriner for a 3-1 lead.

Dan Pohlman hit a solo home run for the Wildcats in the top of the fifth to make it a one-run game at 3-2, providing the game's final margin.

The Boilermakers improve to 15-15 overall and 7-3 in the Big Ten. Purdue and Northwestern conclude their weekend series with a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.
