Final Stats

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team was beaten 7-0 by No. 3 Illinois (13-4, 3-0 Big Ten) at the Atkins Tennis Center on Saturday, March 30. The loss drops the Boilermakers' record to 7-8 overall and evens their Big Ten record at 2-2.

Although Illinois took five of the six singles matches in straight sets, Purdue coach Tim Madden was enthused to see the Boilermakers vie for the doubles point after winning the No. 2 slot.

Junior Carl McCafferty and senior Laith Al-Agba were Purdue's lone pair to win in doubles play, defeating Amer Delic and Jamal Parker 8-6.

"Doubles was very exciting," Madden said. "We competed pretty well, but we made some execution mistakes. After doubles, it was pretty one-sided."

The Illini came through by winning two of three matches to claim the point. At No. 1, Brian Wilson and Phil Stolt of Illinois defeated Purdue junior Scott Mayer and senior Dan Swan 8-6, while Illinois' Mike Kosta and Nathan Zeder beat Boilermaker sophomore Seth McKinley and senior Derek Miller 9-8 at No. 3.

The Boilermakers will host Minnesota on April 6 and Wisconsin on April 7 at the Varsity Tennis Courts. Both matches will begin at 1 p.m.
