WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sophomore Mitch Pruemer tossed his second consecutive shutout, allowing just four Miami hits, in Purdue's 8-0 whitewashing of the Redhawks. The Boilermaker victory was their fourth straight and spoiled Miami's debut at their new baseball facility, the Hayden Intercollegiate Baseball Park.
Pruemer cruised through the game, facing only five hitters over the minimum and setting down 10 straight between the second and fifth innings. Boilermaker pitching has allowed a mere three earned runs in their last four games for a remarkable 0.75 earned run average over the last 36 innings.
Purdue scored seven of its eight runs in the fourth inning. David Harrell scored on a wild pitch for the game's first run. Simon Klink then drove home two runs with a triple and later scored on Andy Rempel's RBI single. Rempel came around to score from third on a fielder's choice. After Redhawks' starter Russ Bayer was chased, Purdue continued its scoring onslaught when Harrell singled home Mitch Koester and Kris Luce plated Adam Fazio with a sacrifice fly for a 7-0 Boilermaker advantage.
The Boilermakers added one run in the sixth when Koester scored on a throwing error by Miami third baseman Andi Scheidt.
Rempel led the Purdue offense with three hits while Fazio and Harrell each added two.
The Boilermakers, 6-12, return home to play Butler on Wednesday, March 27 in a 3 p.m. contest at Lambert Field.
